Tamil Nadu's new Solar Policy introduced in 2019 has set a target of 3600 MW solar generation for the consumer categories - commercial, industrial, agriculture and residential. While the wheels have been set in motion, there are still several roadblocks in achieving this target as per its intended vision.

Rooftop Solar PV is considered critical towards achieving this target, although its adoption has not met with much enthusiasm, especially among residential consumers.

WRI India is organising a stakeholder dialogue between Residential Welfare Associations (RWAs), solar rooftop developers, financial institutions, and the Tamil Nadu discom centred around discussing the challenges of adopting rooftop solar PV; and on deliberating the solutions that can encourage an increased uptake of rooftop solar PV, especially amongst the residential consumers in Chennai.
