World Resources Institute India (WRI India) along with MAUD Principal Secretary’s office is conducting the capstone event for ‘TheCityFix Labs: Accelerating Innovation in Water, Waste & Energy ’ in partnership with Citi Foundation on September 4th, 2019, at Taj Krishna, Hyderabad.
Recognising the need for sustainable infrastructure, WRI India Ross Center for Sustainable Cities and Citi Foundation undertook the TheCityFix Labs first initiative- Accelerating Innovation in Water | Waste | Energy, an urban lab aimed at identifying and promoting innovative urban solutions by start-ups, to bridge the gaps in urban service delivery.
After a six-week open call for applications, and meticulous screening, 10 innovative solutions were shortlisted from the 125 applications. These solutions were evaluated on their potential to address a specific city need through a disruptive innovation, their financial viability, scalability and replicability, and their potential social, economic and environmental impacts.
Three accelerator workshops were conducted between January and April 2019, in Hyderabad, Bengaluru and New Delhi where the TheCityFix Labs cohort of 10 companies were introduced to mentors and technical experts from a wide range of backgrounds including, local government, sector experts in water, waste and energy, and impact investors.
At the CityFix Labs Hyderabad workshop conducted on 29th January 2019, all the companies received interest from the Government of Telangana and many companies have since formally initiated pilot projects with various departments. The capstone event will begin with the signing of Pilot Agreements or MoUs (Memorandum of Understanding) between the companies and their respective departments.
This will be followed by the CityFix Labs Pitch session, wherein all the companies will pitch to an esteemed Jury and three winners will be selected based on a select set of criteria.
The capstone event will conclude with a panel discussion with impact investors and members from the Government of Telangana who will discuss the relevance and scalability of innovative solutions in water, waste and energy.
