From environmental campaigns to pilot projects to policy changes, Mumbai’s trees have received significant attention from citizens and officials in recent months.

In three months, delegates from more than 200 countries will convene at the UN Conference of the Parties (COP) 26 in Glasgow, Scotland, in their continued efforts at limiting global warming to 1.5° C above pre-industrial levels.

From this year, Dhakne said, two NGOs – Resilient India NGO and SaveLIFE Foundation – have been roped in by the state government to help the traffic police to curb road accidents at the three places and a few other districts, which recorded a higher number of road accidents and fatalities.

 Smart City officials said the programme was organised under the Smart City project that comes under the ministry of housing and urban development.

About 50% of the households in the city owned a bicycle in 2011, as per the census data.
