Access to public charging infrastructure at strategic public locations and private charging infrastructure at residential/office buildings is a crucial requirement to enabling higher rates of early EV adoption as well as for mainstreaming the transition. To facilitate its uptake, both availability and convenience of charging needs to be addressed.
However, public EV charging stations are only one part of a comprehensive EV charging network. Studies have shown that 50-80% of all EV charging by individuals occurs at home, while another 15-25% takes place at the office. To drive integrated action towards EV transition, WRI India hosted a virtual event on the topic of ‘EV Ready Streets and Buildings’ to understand the next steps for ensuring an adequate provision of charging infrastructure in the built fabric of our cities. Comprising of two panel discussions, the event brought together experts and practitioners from the public and private sectors, to reflect on a practical roadmap for moving from policy to implementation.
Opening Remarks: Dr. OP Agarwal, CEO, WRI India
