As part of its ongoing engagement with Kochi city supported by the EC SOLUTIONS project, WRI India Sustainable Cities conducted a classroom training on ‘’Safe Access to Mass Transit Stations’’ in September, 2015, for the Kochi Metro Rail Ltd. (KMRL), who were also the co-organizers of the workshop. KMRL identified two stations areas - Kaloor and Lissie Junctions along the proposed Kochi metro route as potential stations for improving quality of access and were trained on five elements of safe access, as laid out in the Safe Access Manual: Safe Access to Mass Transit Stations in Indian Cities, through an interactive simulation game. Other participants included local stakeholders like public and private bus operators, representatives of Indian Railways, police department, NGOs, consultants with KMRL and employees in businesses and institutions in the localities where the stations were located.
