Transport technology startups are impacting urban transit and have changed the way people commute in cities. This new mobility economy is being championed by very young and innovative companies. However, several interpretations of the Motor Vehicles (MV) Act – the Act that governs the transportation ecosystem in the country - render many of these new models illegal. Transport startups constantly run into complications with the authorities over issues like licensing, permit violations, etc. leading to impounding of vehicles and suspension of operations. While governments are attempting to regulate these services, it is important for entrepreneurs to understand the relevance of the Motor Vehicle Act to their businesses so as to receive support and endorsement from government authorities.

This was the first part of the webinar series which highlighted topics related to hierarchy or regulating entities, license and permit types, vehicle types and intended use, insurance requirements, among others .
