This webinar was hosted on 8th November, 2016, from 5:30 - 6:30 pm IST, and presented by Aditya Kini, Advocate, Zehn Lega.
The Motor Vehicles Act is the regulatory framework that governs all transport-related businesses in the country. Many new innovative business models have emerged over the last few years that use technology to provide different kinds of mobility options to urban commuters. However, the terms in the Motor Vehicles Act question the legality and legitimacy of many new businesses. Some of these models have witnessed a very quick acceptance among commuters. A few others have been instrumental in encouraging people to move to more sustainable modes of commute by incentivizing them. In an attempt to regulate these services and accommodate them into the larger regulatory framework, the Government is working on making amendments to the Motor Vehicles Act. Different cities have already started making attempts to regulate new mobility models and make their services available to people.
WRI India Sustainable Cities and Zehn Legal organized a webinar on Demystifying the Motor Vehicles Act (Part II). The webinar elaborated on how the regulatory framework at the Centre and different States/Cities are evolving to accommodate different kinds of new mobility business models. The session was important for startups to be better equipped with the details of a changing regulatory environment and how amendments to existing laws will impact their business models as they are being operated today in different cities.
The webinar was the second of a two-part series. The first webinar addressed aspects of the Motor Vehicles Act that are relevant to new transport businesses and sections of the act that entrepreneurs need to understand to make informed business decisions.
