Accessible, Safe and Inclusive Neighbourhood design in a Green-field scenario

Neha Mungekar

EMBARQ India in partnership with the Naya Raipur Development Authority have been working to pursue an integrated, systematic effort to address transport and urban development challenges in Naya Raipur City in economically, socially and environmentally sustainable ways. The objective of the NRDA - EMBARQ collaboration is to reduce transport and urban development related threats to climate, public health, the infrastructure of the city and the quality of life for city residents and visitors.
The scope of this project is to demonstrate the planning and design of a livable, walkable, and inclusive neighborhood. This presentation highlights the development in the demonstration area of Sector 31 which would showcase a built environment that encourages people to walk, use public transport and cycle, hence discouraging the dependence on personal vehicles. The built environment would encourage a mix of uses deviating from mono land use oriented frameworks and ensure that buildings and streets are scaled to pedestrians and not vehicles. This would also promote lively and safe public places that encourage better social interactions amongst residents and visitors.
