Station Accessibility Plan for Namma Metro
Improving safety conditions along Bengaluru's flagship metro services
EMBARQ India has partnered with Directorate of Urban Land Transport (DULT) to publish a TOR for design interventions at the street level in order to make safe access possible around the metro stations. The project comprises of two parts - the Safe Access project (SAP) and the Development Control Regulations (DCR) proposal for Indiranagar station.
The intent of the Safe Access Project is to show how access to the metro station may be enhanced and made a priority in an environment that anticipates increased density and rapid urban transformation. It also aims at providing a safe and pedestrian friendly environment for metro users as well as residents of adjoining neighbourhoods. This can be achieved through safe pedestrian and bicycle access, multi modal transport systems and efficient street design guide lines.
The Development Control Regulations aim to shape the built environment around the metro station to support the design proposals of the Indiranagar Safe Access Project. This can be achieved by facilitating a development trend that allows higher numbers of people to use the metro system and by guiding the design of built form to improve the street interface thereby creating a more pedestrian friendly and safe environment. A station area analysis and development plan methodology can be developed and be applied to stations across the city while ensuring that each DCR proposal caters to the needs of the context (ecological, historical, develop etc) in which the station is set.
