The residents of Bhopal now have a new, convenient and safer way to traverse their city. On 27th September 2013, in a glittering ceremony attended by over 1,000 people, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, officially launched MyBus.
MyBus is the latest BRT added to India’s fast-growing network of BRTs. Passengers can ride a dedicated bus corridor of 24 km, between Bairagarh and Misrod – a corridor that was created around existent popular bus routes – in the comfort of AC and non-AC buses. The BRT corridor features 41 staggered bus stops, equipped with passenger information. MyBus expects to carry up to 70,000 passengers per day.
Bhopal’s BRT is unique in that it is the only BRT system run by 2 operators on net cost contract. Prasanna Purple Mobility Solution operates 126 non-ac buses, while Capital Roadways and Finance Private Limited operates 20 air-conditioned buses on the corridor.
Given EMBARQ India’s technical and on-ground expertise in implementing sustainable BRT solutions across India, The Bhopal City Links Limited (BCLL) requested the team’s assistance, in May 2013, in preparing the operations plan for MyBus. EMBARQ India was instrumental in handholding the administration through various aspects leading up to the launch.
