The third and final Safe Access workshop provided a platform for discussing insights and solutions for improving connectivity to the Indiranagar, SV Road and Baiyappanahalli metro stations. Workshops are based on the principles of safe access from the Safe Access Manual, developed by WRI India.
The event began with an entrepreneur roundtable moderated by Mr.V. Ravichandar, civic evangelist. Entrepreneurs working on various mobility solutions, including parking services, information and communication services, and shared mobility, had the opportunity to pitch and receive feedback on their business ideas. This was followed by a presentation of the data for Baiyappanahalli, from the WRI India last-mile connectivity survey, which acted as the starting point for the moderated roundtable discussions with multi-stakeholder groups of local residents and entrepreneurs.
Main areas of discussion for improved last-mile connectivity to the specified metro stations included the need for increased frequency and routes of buses and feeder services, clear information and communication services for multi-modal transfers, pedestrian and cycling friendly zones, and segregated pickup and drop off points. The workshop concluded with the launch of the STAMP Challenge by Mr Akito Tachibana, Managing Director of Toyota Kirloskar Motors. The Challenge invites citizens, researchers and entrepreneurs to take up the challenge of improving first and last mile connectivity to Bangalore’s metro stations.
Workshop participants included entrepreneurs, members from citizens’ groups such as BM Kaval, Indiranagar, IchangeIndiranagar and Social Amenities Association, as well as a government representative from BMTC. The workshop was also attended by representatives from the Toyota Mobility Foundation, Toyota Research Initiative and Toyota Kirloskar Motors.
