Entrepreneur Round Table 1

WRI India conducted a round table discussion with urban mobility entrepreneurs, to better understand the opportunities for entrepreneurial engagement in the spheres of first- and last-mile mobility. The discussion brought together a diverse group of entrepreneurs, working in parking solutions, employee transportation management services, applications for ride sharing and transit planning, and public bicycle sharing systems.

The discussion shed light on some key points of action to be achieved through the Station Access and Mobility Program (STAMP), including the following:

  • Demystify government processes so that entrepreneurs can pursue partnership opportunities
  • Raise awareness/ sensitize users and vendors about available services, for greater uptake
  • Facilitate partnerships of entrepreneurs with community groups
  • Gain an understanding on the propensity of users to pay for improved services and accessibility
  • Co-branding is a valuable incentive to increase the reach of entrepreneurs while reducing their costs

Other important takeaways included the need for predictability in government regulation of private services, and the potential for partnership with transport agencies to improve their performance, considering that they have a significant market share.
